Huashang College was Granted Excellent Partnership Award
The 10th anniversary celebration and the award ceremony for the Excellent Partnership was hosted by the University of Huddersfield，UK China Office in Beijing at the British Embassy on October 9th, 2019. President Bob Kline of the University of Huddersfield specially came to Beijing, together with over 100 cooperation representatives from different cities in China, to celebrate and witness this significant and landmark moment. President Kline himself awarded prizes to outstanding cooperation institutions. The representative of Culture and Education Department of the British Embassy attended the ceremony and addressed. Professor Yu Huifen, the Dean of the International School of Huashang College, was invited to attend the ceremony and receive an award on behalf of Huashang College.

In the past 10 years, the University of Huddersfield and its partners have made concerted efforts to promote Sino-British cooperation and made prominent contributions to the development of international talent. During the ceremony, seven grand prizes were announced and President Kline awarded prizes to outstanding partners. Huashang College was honored with the ‘Excellent Partnership Award’.

Dean Yu presented President Kline her book An Introduction to Chinese Traditional Culture (English version) and the bilingual International School handbook. Dean Yu briefly introduced the Internationalization progress of Huashang College, especially the educational programs cooperated with the University of Huddersfield. President Kline said “Huashang College has left him with a good impression and he will visit the college in the near future.”

Mr. Chen Jia, the Chief Representative of the University of Huddersfield, China Office, appreciated the cooperation and support from Huashang College in the past few years and fully affirmed previous successes. In addition, he reflected on the various extracurricular activities carried out by the International School of Huashang College aimed at fostering student global skills and competencies consistent with practices of the University of Huddersfield. Finally, he indicated his willingness to further support extracurricular activities of the International School, besides the HUD English Speech Contest.
The International School’s cooperation with the University of Huddersfield started four years ago with Ms. Eman Liu, the Vice-President of Huashang College in charge of international exchange and cooperation. After her extensive investigation and research, the International School developed several training programs in partnership with the University of Huddersfield in 2015 and started to recruit international students in the same year. Since then two cohorts of students has transferred to the University of Huddersfield continuing their studies. The first cohort, Class of 2015, consisted of 25 students majoring in International Business. Upon graduation, 16 of them were admitted into world famous universities to continue their studies at the Master’s level.

In recent years, under the close attention of the board of directors and the school leadership, Huashang College has developed a coordinated and integrated model supporting international programs. As a result, numerous types of Sino-Foreign cooperative education programs have been initiated with strong progress and momentum. Another positive effect is that the number of students enrolling in the International School has continuously increased to over 200 from initiation in 2015. The International School has not only focused on improving and upgrading teaching facilities but also proactively pursued inclusive teaching strategies. The related schools and departments of Huashang College from which students come to study in the International School, assigned experienced professors to teach in the international programs. The related functional departments not only provided great support and cooperation in various aspects including teaching management, students management, talent and job sharing , but also implemented a series of favorable policies. The well-designed and engaging extracurricular activities organized by the International School contributed to enhance the international atmosphere, broaden students’ viewpoints, and improve their comprehensive proficiency in English, as well as their humanistic quality. These diverse activities have won wide approval and active participation from students, as well as high praise from their parents.

The Excellent Partnership Award represents a great honor from the University of Huddersfield for results and progress over the past few years. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen the partnership with both the University of Huddersfield and other cooperation institutions to create bright future for international education and make greater contributions to cultivating international talent.
