The Mid-term Teaching Inspection Symposium of the International School

In collaboration with the Teaching Affairs Department, the International School carried out the Mid-term Teaching Inspection Symposium for the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year from November 5th to 15th. The symposium aimed to strengthen teaching management, to better understand the actual teaching situation since the start of the semester, and in a timely manner resolve problems identified in the teaching process. The symposium was divided into seven sessions that focused on the relevant majors of the seven departments.

The three programs:International Class, Bilingual Class and Overseas Innovation Class, that the International School has set up currently involve ten majors belonging to seven different schools. The faculty leadership attach great importance to the symposium, so they personally attended or arranged representatives to particpate. Attendees included Prof. Bayar, the Vice Dean of the Accounting School, Prof. Zhang Zhen, Vice Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance, Prof. Su Guining, Chair of the Department of Education, Prof. Yu Huifen, Dean of International School, and several faculty and staff representatives.

At the symposium, student representatives made an objective evaluation of the teaching situation involving teaching attitude, teaching methods, teaching ability, and teaching effect. They also raised questions on study and life involving classroom teaching, teaching progress, teaching methods, and logistics support. All attending carefully listened to the students opinions and made detailed notes. All attendees were pleased with the performance of the students. They responded to the questions raised by the students providing constructive responses, positive guidance or suggestions for solving identified concerns. They not only stressed that they will fully consider and absorb the advice from the students, but also hoped that students will continue to actively communicate with faculty to effectively express their concerns in the future.

The leaders or faculty representatives will collect the opinions and suggestions put forward by the students and convey them to the relevant departments or individuals. For the concerns on both public or general courses and the logistical support including campus environment and living facilities, the staff of the International School will provide feedback to the relevant departments.

After the symposium, Dean Yu asked the staff of our school to sum up these issues and take specific measures. The outstanding concerns should be addressed in a timely manner after the staff have had time to coordinate with the relevant departments. The problems that need follow up should be handled by specific individuals. The issues that are difficult to tackle temporarily should be reasonably explained to students. In addition, Dean Yu thanked faculty attending this symposium for their support, and encouraged students to give their opinions and suggestions on teaching for the improvement of teaching quality, teaching management, and the teaching feedback process.
