Lecture Review 丨 "Traveling through 2 million years of human civilization history - Entering the British Museum on International Museum Day".

As the "International Museum Day" on May 18 approached, in order to arouse college students' attention to museums and let more people understand the cultural connotations carried by historical relics and experience the precious cultural relics recording the development of human historical civilization in the collections of the British Museum, one of the world's four famous museums. On May 21, the International College of Guangzhou Huashang College held the 29th cultural quality series lecture of the International College of Huashang Lecture Hall themed "Traveling through 2 million years of human civilization history - Entering the British Museum on International Museum Day". This lecture was given by Dean Hui Yanyan of the International College of Guangzhou Huashang College. 165 students from the International College, School of Data Science, School of Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Literature, School of Health and Medicine, School of Teacher Education, School of Economics and Trade, School of Communication and Media, and School of Art and Design listened to the lecture.

First of all, Dean Hui Yanyan started from the establishment of "International Museum Day" on May 18 and talked about the importance of museums in recording the development of human historical civilization. From the word "museum" which represents the collective name of nine goddesses in ancient Greek legends, it explains the types and coverage of cultural relics collected in museums.

Subsequently, Dean Hui Yanyan expounded on the important role of characters in revealing the development of civilized history by narrating the discovery process and important value of the Rosetta Stone, the treasure of the British Museum. The disappearance of a kind of character also means the demise of a civilization. The Rosetta Stone has rightfully become the treasure of the British Museum as it has become the "golden key" to cracking Egyptian hieroglyphs. Through the interpretation of Egyptian hieroglyphs, people have discovered the beliefs of ancient Egypt, their understanding of life and death reincarnation, and the reasons for making mummies and building pyramids.

Next, Dean Hui Yanyan introduced the Elgin Marbles representing ancient Greek civilization preserved in the British Museum. These marble sculptures that were originally on the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, were cut off and transported to the British Museum. They are typical representatives of the artistic treasures of ancient Greek civilization. However, during the 2004 Olympics held in Greece and through many negotiations between government leaders, these national treasures could not be returned home. This has triggered many waves of cultural relic recovery disputes.

Finally, Dean Hui Yanyan led the students to Dunhuang by introducing the Dunhuang cultural relics in Stein's collection on the official website of the British Museum. She narrated the discovery of the Mogao Grottoes' Library Cave and the distressing process of the loss of cultural relics, as well as the deeds of Dunhuang scholars who remembered the scars and concentrated on research. Through this, Dean Hui Yanyan asked the students present to think about how we should view these cultural relics that carry a long historical civilization? What is the value and significance of protecting these cultural relics for human civilization?

The students all expressed that this sharing method benefited them a lot. After the lecture, many students stepped forward and couldn't put down the beautifully printed copperplate paper books of cultural relics collections of the British Museum that Dean Hui Yanyan brought back from the UK.
