The International College and the International Exchange and Cooperation Office jointly held the second English dubbing competition "Focus on New Quality Productive Force, Assist High-Quality Development"

General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized during the 11th collective study session of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee the need to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces and solidly promote high-quality development. In order to help college students understand the connotation, development, and influence of new quality productivity, tell the story of China's development of new quality productivity in English. Since April 2024, the International College of Guangzhou Huashang College, in conjunction with the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, has organized the second English dubbing competition“Focus on New Quality Productive Force, Assist High-Quality Development”. Through the preparation of dubbing videos by contestants and preliminary selection, the final was held on May 28, 2024 in the Academic Lecture Hall of the Guangzhou Campus Library. Wang Wenzhong, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, Hui Yanyan, Dean of the International School, Du Xiujun, Vice Dean of Foreign Languagesthe School of , Yang Lijun, Secretary of the Party Branch of the International College, Dr. Frank Larbi, a Ghanaian teacher, Dr. Aneela Qadir, a Pakistani teacher, and more than 120 college students from the InternationalSchool, Foreign LanguagesSchool , LiteratureSchool, Health and MedicineSchool ,Management School , Artificial IntelligenceSchool , Economics and TradeSchool , andTeacher Education School attended the finals on site.

Firstly, Yang Lijun, the Secretary of the Party Branch directly under the InternationalSchool, delivered a speech, stating that this competition has a distinct contemporary significance, aiming to enable college students to understand the connotations of "new quality productivity" and "high-quality development" while improving their English proficiency, broadening their international perspective, and showcasing the youthful vitality of contemporary college students.

Subsequently, the 9 finalists took turns to appear, showcasing their English speaking skills and understanding of new quality productivity through live dubbing of an English documentary about a foreign friend visiting modern enterprises and research institutes in China.

Director Wang Wenzhong praised the outstanding performance of Huashang students on today's stage, demonstrating the excellent English speaking skills of our school's students; He also analyzed the continuous improvement and enhancement of translation tools in the era of AI and artificial intelligence, and talked about the importance of communication between people and the position of English in conveying information and emotions. He encouraged contemporary college students to always engage in English oral training, which is not only an exercise in their own learning ability, but also an inevitablepathtowards internationalization.

Dr. Frank Larbi, a Ghanaian teacher, commented that he had witnessed China's high-quality development in the past few years. In today's contest, he not only saw the expression ability and foreign language level of contemporary Chinese college students, but also further understood the essence of "Chinese path to modernization", "high-quality development" and "new quality productivity" from this contest. He believes that English is a tool, but more importantly, an art and culture. He hopes that college students will not dub for the sake of dubbing, but rather showtheir own style and stage appeal, and make their dubbing materials shine brightly.

After intense competition, the following students have won awards at various levels:

First Prize: Zeng Can, Zhang Deyang

Second Prize: Liang Jiaxin, Gu Jiaxi, Hu Yaqing

Third Prize: Yao Sangyi, Ye Sixin, Liu Xitong, Huang Jianbin

After the competition, the contestants and students on site actively had in-depth exchanges with the judges. They believed that this activity was very beneficial for improving the English proficiency of college students and understanding the development of the country. They hoped that the judges and foreign teachers would organize more related activities to help them exercise themselves and improve their abilities.
