On the occasion of the Frenchstudygroup, on May 28,International Cooperation & Exchange Officeheld an international etiquette training in Qizhi Building 502, Guangzhou Campus.DeanHui Yanyan of theInternational Schoolserved as the keynote speaker. French teacher Qi Aiping, 8 outstanding students and staff of theInternational Schoolparticipated in the training.
DeanHui Yanyan introduced the international etiquette precautions and related knowledge from the four aspects of foreign etiquette, public etiquette, treating people and personal etiquette.
First of all,DeanHui Yanyan started from the basic rules of foreign etiquette, she used Confucius ‘no learning of etiquette, no way to stand’ to talk about the importance of etiquette in life and society, and emphasised that respect for others, put themselves in the shoes of others, empathy is the underlying logic of the modern etiquette, if you can always think of‘Do not do unto others what you would not have them do to you’, in most cases, daily foreign etiquette can be handled with ease. If you can always think of‘Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you’, you will be able to handle daily foreign etiquette with ease in most cases.
Afterwards, Dean Hui Yanyan talked about the etiquette requirements in public places from the perspectives of controlling the volume of sound, taking lifts, obeying order, respecting privacy, and following time. He also talked about the norms of using words related to national sovereignty, vulnerable groups and races in daily communication from the perspective of ‘Xinhua News Agency Releases Banned Words and Discreet Words for News Reporting (Revised Version in July 2019)’.
Next, Dean Hui Yanyan, in terms of the etiquette requirements for dealing with people, emphasised the importance of knowing the information of the people you are visiting, learning to respect the elderly and elders, learning the traditional Chinese table culture, being warm and polite to people, and also the need to be good at breaking the deadlock and enlivening the atmosphere.
Finally, Dean Hui Yanyan suggested that students should pay attention to personal hygiene and dress according to the requirements of official activities.
