In September, the International School at Guangzhou Huashang College welcomed the 2024 cohort of new students, including high school graduates and transfer students from junior colleges. The Dean of the International School, Hui Yanyan, the Party Branch Secretary Yang Lijun, along with faculty, staff, and volunteers, warmly greeted the newcomers with great enthusiasm. School leaders also visited the scene to extend their regards to the teachers and students involved in the orientation activities at the International School.

Braving scorching sun or stormy weather caused by typhoons, they tirelessly helped carry luggage and even acted as "tour guides" on shared bikes, introducing key locations that would be important for the students’ academic and daily life over the coming years.
To provide new students with a welcoming and comfortable living environment, Dean Hui Yanyan and Party Branch Secretary Yang Lijun visited the dormitories prior to their arrival to assess the accommodations. Dean Hui emphasized that dormitories are essential spaces where students rest and live together, marking the first step toward adapting to university life. She urged the student affairs department to prioritize dormitory safety and hygiene, and adhere to the 5S standards in building a conducive environment that fosters good living habits among students.(5S: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke)

The new students expressed that the care shown by teachers and volunteers made them feel the warmth of a home, and the assistance they received from the volunteers made their arrival process much easier. On the evening of the registration day, Secretary Yang Lijun, along with several faculty members, visited the dormitories again to engage with the newly arrived students. He inquired about their living conditions, addressed their needs, and conducted a secondary inspection of the dormitory facilities. During these interactions, Secretary Yang conveyed the school’s high expectations for the students and encouraged them to be proactive in their studies and to courageously chase their dreams. The students, in turn, promised not to disappoint the school’s trust, committing to diligent study and continuous self-improvement.

This orientation not only allowed the freshmen to seamlessly integrate into the International School family at Guangzhou Huashang College but also reflected the institution’s student-centered philosophy. It is believed that in the upcoming academic journey, the new students will embark on a fulfilling and memorable university experience here.
