Lecture Review | A Study on the Competitiveness and Complementarity of Service Trade between China and RCEP Member Countries
In order to correctly understand the competition and cooperation between China's various industries and RCEP member countries in international economic and trade relations, to gain an in-depth understanding of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), broaden the international perspective of our university students, and rightly recognize the conflicts and cooperation in international economic and trade relations, on October 29, 2024, the International School of Guangzhou Huashang College held the 32nd Cultural Literacy Lecture titled "A Study on the Competitiveness and Complementarity of Service Trade between China and RCEP Member Countries." The lecture specially invited Associate Professor Wang Tieshan from the School of Management at Xi’an University of Technology, who is also the Deputy Director of the “Belt and Road” Professional Committee of the China Commercial History Society, as the keynote speaker. More than 100 university students from the International School, Teacher Education School, Communication and Media School, and Foreign Languages School attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Vice Dean Zhang Zhen of the International School.

First, Associate Professor Wang Tieshan started from the perspective of the competitiveness of service trade between China and RCEP member countries, explaining the background and significance of RCEP, emphasizing the important role of service trade in constructing a new development pattern. Using multiple indicators such as international market share and trade competitiveness index, he thoroughly analyzed the competitive situation and complementary advantages of service trade between China and RCEP member countries, which sparked discussion and reflection among the teachers and students present.

During the lecture, Professor Wang presented the competitiveness of service trade among RCEP member countries to the students with numerous charts and detailed data. He pointed out that China and RCEP member countries have strong competitive advantages in industries such as construction, telecommunications and information technology, and transportation, but still need to strive for improvement in areas like finance and intellectual property. At the same time, he emphasized the complementarity among countries in the field of service trade, providing broad space and opportunities for future cooperation and development.
In the interactive session, students actively raised questions related to the lecture theme to Professor Wang, who patiently and meticulously answered them one by one, covering topics from the latest policies in service trade to future development trends, from competition patterns in the international market to domestic industrial upgrading paths to solve students' doubts. Meanwhile, Vice Dean Zhang Zhen provided guidance for students on research related to international trade.

The lecture concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic applause from the students, who expressed that through this lecture they not only understood the competitiveness and complementarity of service trade between China and RCEP member countries but were also inspired to develop greater interest and curiosity in the field of international trade.
After the lecture, many students lingered to continue discussions with Professor Wang and Vice Dean Zhang about the lecture topic. This lecture not only provided a valuable learning opportunity for the students but also had a positive impact on promoting their personal growth and expanding their knowledge horizons.
