In today’s world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a popular topic, not only transforming our lives but also playing an increasingly vital role across various industries. To help students better understand AI and grasp its future societal impact and significance, on November 1, 2024, the International School of Guangzhou Huashang College invited Indian AI expert Mehta Rajkumar to deliver a lecture titled “AI for Everyone: Demystifying Artificial Intelligence.” The event was attended by Dean Hui Yanyan, Vice Dean Zhang Zhen, all 2024 Computer Science and Technology students from the International School, as well as over 30 students from the School of Humanities and the School of Health Medicine. The lecture was hosted by Vice Dean Zhang Zhen.

Mehta Rajkumar began by introducing the basic concepts of artificial intelligence, using the naming origin of the computer chip brand “Intel” to lead into the topic and help students appreciate how AI is omnipresent in daily life. He then explained AI’s integration across various industries, highlighting how AI continuously reshapes our lifestyles and ways of working through constant upgrades and iterations.

During his talk, Mehta Rajkumar engaged the audience with progressively interactive questions such as, “Why do words like ‘teacher’ and ‘lover’ end with the suffix ‘-er’? Can this rule be conceptually applied?” and “How must machines operate to achieve the desired results?” Through these discussions, he illustrated how AI will continue to improve life services through machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and other methodologies.

In the Q&A and interaction segment, Mehta Rajkumar encouraged active participation by offering rewards for daring and enthusiastic answers, motivating students to engage deeply in the discussion. This collaborative exploration fostered multidimensional knowledge acquisition in machine learning and promoted divergent thinking on the same problem to achieve higher-quality development.

This lecture sparked greater interest among students in AI research and applications, clarified the prospects and challenges of AI technologies, and helped them better position their career development for the upcoming AI era.

Dean Hui Yanyan and DeputyDean Zhang Zhen presented Mehta Rajkumar with a certificate of appreciation for his lecture.
