On February 25, 2025, the International School organized a closing symposium for the Excellent University Students’ English Intensive Training Camp to learn about the experiences and gains of students who recently completed the Singapore English intensive training camp. Attending the meeting were Dean Hui Yanyan, Director of Student Affairs Guan Huihui, counselor Hao Zixiu, and faculty members Yao Xiaomin and Feng Lexin.

At the symposium held by the International School, students who participated in the Singapore English intensive training camp shared their insights from the three-week learning experience. Students generally expressed that through immersive language learning, their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills were significantly improved. Based on their experiences in the camp, they offered several practical suggestions regarding the teaching methods and curriculum design of the school’s English courses.

The meeting also focused on discussing students’ study abroad and career development plans. Dean Hui Yanyan systematically introduced the special features and strengths of cooperative institutions in various majors and provided personalized study abroad advice tailored to different student groups, helping students clarify their future academic development paths.

Shi Ruini shared her learning gains from the camp, stating that her English communication abilities in daily life and academic contexts have improved, along with enhanced pronunciation accuracy. Additionally, by learning about Singapore’s social management, housing policies, and public service systems—especially the local lifelong learning fund policy—she gained clearer insight into her future education planning.

He Meixuan mentioned that Singaporean teacher Mr. Hafiz’s oral English teaching methods left a deep impression on her. She suggested that the school’s oral English classes could adopt his modular teaching approach, with a focus on strengthening pronunciation training; she also recommended moderately increasing the class hours for IELTS speaking and writing courses, adopting component-based teaching methods to enhance the systematization and effectiveness of instruction.

Students shared observations about transportation features in Singapore during their travels: compared with China, local transportation payment methods were relatively fixed and less flexible. For example, the bus card was limited to bus rides only, and the metro system did not offer single-ride ticket sales. This differentiated transportation payment system caused a certain degree of inconvenience in their daily commuting.

Regarding internship planning, students actively consulted attending teachers about domestic and international internship options and expressed confusion about career development directions related to their majors. Dean Hui Yanyan provided detailed answers: for internships, students in the “3+1” academic year program may choose to complete their graduation internships domestically or abroad based on personal development plans; for students in the “2+2” program, the school recommends opting for overseas internship opportunities to fully leverage the advantages of the dual-degree program. She also emphasized that the school is actively expanding overseas cooperation resources to build internship platforms, helping students improve professional skills through practice and laying a foundation for future career development.

This symposium not only provided a communication and sharing platform for participating students but also offered important reference for the school to further optimize teaching and improve study abroad and internship guidance. It holds positive significance for promoting the International School’s educational development and supporting student growth.
