2020 Freshman Foreign Language Intensive Training Camp

In order to enable freshmen to experience the international atmosphere, foreign language classroom, increase their confidence, stimulate interest in foreign language learning, and make them better adapt to classes in bilingual or full foreign language;  the International School organized a three-day foreign language intensive training camp for the 2020 freshmen of International School. Though immersion studying in a relaxing, engaging and fun environment adopting the method of foreign language teaching and optional class system, students were allowed to participate, gain knowledge and confidence.

After the three-day training, the freshmen presented an elaborately prepared stage show on October 27th, 2020 in the hall of Huashang Conference Center. Attendees included all the freshmen, senior student representatives. Staff and faculty in attendance included: Professor Zhong Senwen, the Vice President of Huashang College; Mr Wang Wenzhong, the Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office; Dr. Sal, Ms Jiang Yujun, Ms Jin Yihan and Ms Xiaoxiao; Professor Yu Huifen, the Dean of the International School; Professor Li Pinghai, the Vice Dean of the International School; Mr Yang Lijun, the Counselor of the International School; and the faculty from the International School and the International Exchange and Cooperation Office.

To kick-off the event, student Mr Hu Bairong gave a speech on behalf of all the freshmen participating in the training camp. He said that he has not only learned knowledge and made new friends but also found confidence in using foreign languages during the training. At the end of his speech, he thanked all the teachers in the camp and wished everyone a better future.

Then, Ms Jiang Yujun and Ms Jin Yihan, faculty from the training camp, gave speeches. Ms Jiang showed her pleasure of teaching in the camp and encouraged students to bravely speak foreign languages and express their ideas. Ms Jin expressed her great honor to witness the wonderful performances of the 2020 freshmen cohort and expressed that the series of activities of the training camp have impressed her a lot.

In the next part, freshmen presented a stage show to audiences. Various forms of programs were showed, including songs, dances, dubbing, news broadcast, comedies and dramas. Audiences fully enjoyed the show and appreciated students’ talent and elegant performances.

After the performance, Dr. Sal made comments. He spoke highly of these exciting programs and thought the wonderful performances, with great courage and teamwork spirit would bring everyone an unforgettable and pleasant experience. He hoped students can bravely show themselves, actively integrate into campus life and fully enjoy their college years.

Afterwards, the honored guests presented awards for outstanding performances. In all, 9 awards presented encouraged students’ enthusiastic participation and acknowledged their excellent performance.

In conclusion, after the award ceremony, Dean Yu gave a closing speech. In her words, “each show was so wonderful that everyone enjoyed it, and she was surprised at students’ performances prepared in such a short time.” Dean Yu believed students would create an amazing college life through their diligence and hard work in the following years. She thanked all the guests for their support and all the staff for their collaborations during the camp, especially the teachers for their efforts in the classroom.

In the closing, all teachers and students took a group photo. For another year, the ceremony of the training camp has come to an end, with a rewarding series of activities during the training camp.
