of the Communist Party of China from the history of Yan’an


On this profound occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the International School of Huashang College cordially welcomed Associate Professor Li Qiong to lecture on the centennial great causes of the CPC from the perspective of Yan’an. Held in Room 510 of the Qizhi Building on May 25th, 2021, it was the 15th lecture of the Cultural Quality Lecture Series of the International School. The attendees included Dean Yu Huifen, staff of the International School, students of the International School, and other students interested in the topic.


Professor Li holds the posts of the Party Secretary and the Deputy Dean of the Jinan-Birmingham Union School of Jinan University, the Vice Chairman of Association of Young Social Science Workers of Guangdong Province, and the Evaluation Expert of sino-foreign cooperative education of the Ministry of Education. She has translated books like Market Rule, Super Questioning Skills and Grandma Moses, compiled the textbook Party Lectures in Colleges and Universities in the New Age (People’s Daily) as the first subeditor, co-compiled English textbooks like Correspondence Course on College English and Practical Oral-English Course, and published over 10 academic papers. In addition, she has presided over or participated in several scientific research projects related to internationalization of higher education, intercultural communication, reform of overseas students’ management mechanism, approach of sino-foreign cooperative education and Chinese-English inter-translation.


This lecture attracted a full house with students eager to learn from the centennial history of the CPC. Professor Li lectured from four perspectives: Yan’an city as the shrine of the Chinese revolution, international friends visiting Yan’an for its charm, the youth heading to Yan’an for Chinese revolution, and the revolutionary spirits represented by Yan’an. She proceeded with her informative speech by providing historical records and videos and actively interacting with the audience. By the way of story-telling, she created a completely immersive experience that aroused attendees enthusiasm and ambition.

The lecture mainly focused on:

1. Yan’an city as the shrine of the Chinese revolution

At the start, Profesor Li led students to review the 13 years the Party’s Central Committee spent in Yan’an by the account of the chronicle of revolutionary events. The arduous struggle history has regarded as a mirror for the members of the CPC to govern the Party, the nation and the armed forces.

2. International friends visiting Yan’an for its charm

In the 30s and 40s of the last century, plenty of foreigners with lofty ideals arduously came to the revolutionary base area located in Yan’an. These international friends with different cultural background were impressed by the revolutionary spirits of the Party. They thought the Party a miraculous group, which not only embodies the hope of rejuvenating Chinese nation and the oriental charm, but also influences the Chinese youth and forecasts the bright future of the Chinese nation.

3. The youth heading to Yan’an for the Chinese revolution

The youth leaving for Yan’an was known as a large-scale enlistment movement in modern and contemporary Chinese history. These young intellectuals embracing equality and freedom went through hardships and arrived in Yan’an for their ambitions. The political environment and the effect of the revolutionary shrine greatly shocked the youth and aroused their fighting spirit.

4. The revolutionary spirit represented by Yan’an

The history of Yan’an can be seen as a thick textbook, which guides the Party members and the ambitious youth to sublimate thoughts, enhance Party characters, improve capacity and foster high integrative diathesis. Nowadays, infinitely approaching the center of the world stage and the goal of realizing Chinese nation’s great rejuvenation, the youth with unprecedented confidence and competence need setting their life goals to contribute to country’s development and prosperity.


When talking about the famous works of Mao Zedong, the founder of the People’s Republic of China, Prof. Li displayed some poems of President Mao created in Yan’an and invited students to read them out loud on stage. Students recited the poems fluently and emotionally, which won rounds of applause from audience. During the Q&A part, students enthusiastically put forward their questions and Professor Li responded patiently.

In closing, Dean Yu firstly thanked Professor Li for her coming and impressive speech. She concluded that Prof. Li gave an insightful and informative Party lecture by rationally expounding with emotion, which attracted and impressed the audience. In addition, she noted that Prof. Li completely presented her professional quality as the national first-class announcer and her good mental outlook as the Party Secretary. Then, Dean Yu emphasized the importance of the Party history which was regarded as the best textbook and spiritual nourishment. Finally, Dean Yu hoped students can comply with the guidance from Prof. Li, carry forward the revolutionary spirits of Yan’an, and combine the realization of personal value with the practice of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
