2019 Freshmen’s Dormitories Visited by the Dean and the Counselor of the International School

On the evening of September 9th, 2019, Dean Yu and Counsellor Yang of the International School together with student assistants visited the freshmens dormitory accommodations. This was the best way to learn about the new students’ living conditions, their concerns, and to give advice to help them to adapt to campus life.

‘How’s your day?’, ‘How’s your new life here?’, ‘Are there any problems existed now?’and What problems did you have entering these dormitories? are examples of the questions Dean Yu asked to learn about the freshmen’s enrollment and adaptation. Dean Yu also encouraged everyone to set up long-term goals, strengthen their conviction and develop good habits in life.

Counsellor Yang then emphasized important security issues, such as being aware of fraud , properly using electronic equipment, and safety of off-campus activities. He also resolved some accommodation problems for the freshmen. For example, he taught them to correctly use the water heater, provided and showed them how to contact the maintenance crew to repair furniture, and told them about dormitory-change procedures. Both the Dean and the Counsellor were deeply concerned with the freshmen’s living conditions and well being. They not only warned students to pay attention to weather change to keep warm, but also advised them to get along with other students and integrate into their campus life as soon as possible.

In addition, the student assistants introduced the upcoming college activities and distributed invoices of military training uniforms. After getting to know faculty and the seniors, the freshmen were inspired and encouraged to better adapt to the new campus life and to cherish their college time.

In all, 19 dormitories were visited during the evening. The visit highlighted the concerns from the International School and promoted the close relationship between faculty, staff, and students. All the freshmen expressed their gratitude for the faculty guidance and care and were satisfied with the comfortable living and study environment created by the International School. They said that they were ready and had decided to start to work hard for their overseas study and better self- development in future.
